DPP explained

The QR code is just the door. The DPP is the structured information space behind it.

The Digital Product Passport (DPP) makes products transparent, sustainable and future-proof. It connects data from manufacturing, use and recycling — across the entire lifecycle.

What a DPP is NOT

  • not a PDF
  • not a QR code
  • not a spreadsheet
  • not an ERP record

What a DPP IS

  • door to the product
  • structured space
  • connection point
  • information layer

DPP toolkit

Mandatory and optional data elements

What data belongs in the DPP? The ESPR and its delegated acts set minimum requirements — mandatory and optional data together make up the final digital product passport.

Mandatory data

Legally required — depends on product group and ESPR regulation

  • Identity Unique product ID, model, batch or serial number, GTIN where applicable.
  • Manufacturer Name, address and responsible economic operator.
  • Materials Material composition, substances contained and critical raw materials.
  • Safety Declarations of conformity, markings and hazard warnings.
  • Circularity & disposal Information on lifespan, recycling, disassembly and proper disposal.
DPP

Optional data

Voluntary additions for service and use

  • Technical documentation Data sheets, specifications and technical drawings.
  • Maintenance Maintenance intervals, care instructions and service information.
  • Spare parts Availability, sourcing and installation instructions.
  • Repair Repair instructions and authorized service centers.
  • Software versions Firmware versions, updates and change history.

The product journey

Collecting information. Shaping the future.

Valuable information is created at every stage. It gets collected, structured and made available in the Digital Product Passport — your DPP box.

The principle

The DPP isn't created at the end — it grows with the product. Information that already exists gets connected and meaningfully structured.

A lot of DPP-relevant information often already exists — just scattered.
The first step isn't software. It's orientation.

ESPR & delegated acts

One framework – many industries

The Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) is the "parent" regulation. It sets the general requirements — delegated acts spell them out per industry.

  • Textiles & apparel
  • Furniture
  • Electronics
  • Steel & metals
  • Batteries
  • Vehicles
  • Construction products
  • Other industries

Ecodesign Sustainable Product Regulation

The overarching EU regulation creates the legal framework for sustainable products in Europe. Delegated acts spell out the requirements for each industry.
